The new tax act, formally known as the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA), was signed into law January 2nd, with most provisions taking effect January 1, 2013.  The new act writes very few new provisions into tax law but rather extends and makes permanent many provisions that expired in 2012 or earlier years.  Some changes also resulted from the Affordable Care Act that became law in March 2010. Read more.
